At the end of 2022 I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer and a serious blood disorder called amyloidosis which meant that 2023 became a harrowing year of treatment, including months of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. This treatment wiped out and then rebuilding my immune system and left me feeling very unwell and vulnerable to infection for a long time. At every consultation she took the time and care to really understand my symptoms and was knowledgeable on how her treatments might work with the medications I was on. When she didn’t fully understand something she consulted her supervisor and researched what would work best for me. She was always available via WhatsApp or email and responded promptly to any queries or questions from me. Some of my symptoms were chronic but gradually with her careful attention to the finer details of them, they did subside and the quality of my life improved. I am also confident that my immune system improved, and while I did catch some colds and flu, these were generally milder and I didn’t require conventional antibiotics, or hospitalisation!
